I’ve been subscribed to Globe Soup’s emails for quite a while now. It’s a great website to search for writing competitions, courses, and resources – but with all the competitions they hold, that’s the element that really attracts me. I so enjoy challenging my writing abilities by entering writing contests, especially those like the 7 Day Story Writing Challenge!
If you read my post on the Writer’s Games last summer, that gives you a fairly good idea of what Globe Soup’s challenge is like (at least, I imagine so – next week will be my first time doing it!). You’re given a random genre and a theme and expected to write a short story of no more than 2,000 words within 7 days. Maybe this sounds daunting, but I think it sounds awesome!
The best thing about competitions like these is that there are no stakes. Your career isn’t on the line, you’re not going to face ridicule… You’re just writing your best and perhaps entering your story for a shot at the 500 GBP prize. You don’t even have to take part in the competition if you don’t like the genre or theme! Just wait until the next time the 7 Day Challenge comes around; you stay indefinitely subscribed to the challenge when you sign up.
As I’ve already said, I’ll be doing this challenge for the first time next week, and I hope you’ll join me! It’s a great way to hone your writing skills and it won’t even take up too much time; 2,000 words in a week is an easily achievable goal, and as far as I know, there’s no minimum word count, either.
Let’s take part in this new challenge together! Let me know what competitions and challenges you’ll be entering this year in the comments.
Happy writing!

When you write as much as I do, you have to take frequent breaks from sitting. A standing desk (not a whole desk, but a mini desk that will sit on top of my current desk with my laptop, keyboard, and mouse and extend upward) will allow me to continue working while maintaining that good blood flow to my brain. Thank you so much for your support that allows me to keep producing free content. God bless you! ♥️ E.J.
