Eyes.
Haze’s breath froze in her throat. Beady black eyes locked onto her past the end of her arrow tip.
He can’t see me. There’s no way.
And yet, there was more than just a simple look in those eyes. He was watching her. Waiting. He didn’t even try to speak or raise his voice to warn the other delegates.
Haze’s heartbeat thrummed in her ears. It didn’t matter. This was her job.
Untitled Fantasy WIP
If you love reading, I’m talking to you! I’m currently editing a fantasy short story that I plan on submitting to the Writers of the Future competition in March. Is it unlikely I’ll win because it’s an enormous competition? Yes. But I’ve wanted to try anyway, and there are always more competitions I can enter it into if this one doesn’t work out.
This short story came out of nowhere but I ended up really liking it just from the rough draft. I think it has lots of potential. But, come January, I’m going to need some feedback on it – and that’s where you come in! If a story about an assassin whose plan gets thrown completely off the rails by an enchanted storm sounds interesting to you, read on!
If you love fantasy, will read any genre, want to check out some free fiction, or just feel like giving feedback on a ~5k-word short story, contact me at ejrobisonauthor@gmail.com ASAP! I’m building my list of beta readers now so that we’ll be ready to go in January 2023. The gig is simply reading the short story and letting me know your thoughts about it. If you’ve never been a beta reader before, that’s totally fine! All I need from you is your honest opinion.
Thank you in advance – your help with this will help me become a better writer, not to mention have a better shot at winning the competitions I’m going to enter!
Thanks to all you readers out there!

When you write as much as I do, you have to take frequent breaks from sitting. A standing desk (not a whole desk, but a mini desk that will sit on top of my current desk with my laptop, keyboard, and mouse and extend upward) will allow me to continue working while maintaining that good blood flow to my brain. Thank you so much for your support that allows me to keep producing free content. God bless you! ♥️ E.J.
