The world was nothing more than a child’s play set. Cars were toys, people little action figures. Skyscrapers were made from building blocks.
Is this the view that birds have? I wondered, pressing my face against the old, discolored glass. Yes, I could imagine that I was a bird, singing, flying high above, feeling the wind on my face…
…free.
At the thought of that one word, reality bled through my fantasy. The blue sky hung tantalizingly close, just outside the single window of my cold stone prison.
The world might be small, but it was also immeasurably far away.

When you write as much as I do, you have to take frequent breaks from sitting. A standing desk (not a whole desk, but a mini desk that will sit on top of my current desk with my laptop, keyboard, and mouse and extend upward) will allow me to continue working while maintaining that good blood flow to my brain.
