A Rueful Morning

No. 19/100 100-word short stories for my 100 follower celebration!

As Ellistai walked out her front door, the forest greeted her as it always did.

“Good morning,” the nearest tree said, slightly bending its leafy head in greeting.

“Morning,” Ellistai grumbled as a growing chorus of greetings filled the air. After days, weeks, and months of telling them to stop being so cheery, of telling them she didn’t want to live in this  sickly sweet forest, they still refused to quit.

A fly buzzed past her ear. “Good morning, Ellistai,” it hummed. Ellistai sighed and tried to block out all the noise. It was going to be another long day.
