Prompt: a piece of clothing kept just for the memory

It’s a tattered old thing, a remnant of a better – or is it worse? – time. She wore it every day, claiming it was the “staple” that made every outfit she wore uniquely her. Sometimes, I hold it close, imagining she’s in my arms. I think I can smell her, that scent of old books and fresh flowers, but I know it’s just my mind playing tricks. The vest smells of nothing but just and age now, just like the faded memory of her. But it’s all the memory I have, so in my arms it remains.
